TODAY'S VIsit:
Had the pleasure to visit this local den of heroes whose presence in this neighborood cannot be easily ignored, they are so busy and coming and going all the time, at all hours. I asked them about this and they said there were occasional lulls, too, but they were not the busiest Firehouse..just one of the busier ones.

One time they had just come back when I was walking by and and they were all exhausted--they had been at a big gas leak. Gas leaks are insidious things to deal with...they can be set off by small things and are not like fighting a fire per se...

This great bunch of firefighters deserve their motto of "Monumental Pride" all right..

Great bunch of guys.

I don't want to  take up too much of their time of course...I see them out on the street all the time of course,-- as well as hearing them so often at night--I live just a couple of blocks away-- as well as seeing their Thawing Unit and the Battalion Chief's Vehicle...they cover "Harlem to the Hudson" -- quite a chunk of this Island...

The FDNY current rules forbid any interviews with on duty FFs

and discourages them from being photographed in the Firehouse..Here however, is a video I made last year of a brief talk with FF "Mike the Probie" * top left in picture above-- you has indeed made it through his probationary period and now a happily full fledged fireman.

Mike is a little uneasy about interviewed even back then, as you can tell,-- but you can see what a friendly and intelligent man he is, and yes, he is the son of a firefighter as he tells us here...again, we want to wish Mike and all the other great guys such as his friend Manko a happy 150th anniversary of the FDNY!

Then a little while later, I went back and met FF Rocco, who spoke again about how busy they were but he didn't think it was all that exceptionally busy for the FDNY (which is having a busier and busier time with more and more work assignments being given to them as Certified First Responders.

Then, I found out they had just ordered new T shirts...with the new Monumental Pride logo on them..so of course I had to have one!
