Michelle Kessler Don't forget to grab a shovel and help your amazing fire department by clearing the fire hydrants in your neighborhood!! EVERY SECOND COUNTS!!
Cesar Olivera Yeah right. The end of the world could be coming and people will still call 911 because they have a cold.
The blizzard is behind us, but the snow remains here in New York City. We’d like to remind NYC homeowners and business owners to clear the snow away from hydrants. Clearing the way keeps both you and your neighborhood safe, as every second matters during an emergency. If you need assistance, ask a friend or neighbor for help, don’t overexert yourself. Adrienne M Fanelli Sixth Avenue and bleecker need my apartment building all piles of snow
Stephanie Simms Thanks to the helpful group of men that cleared the snow away from my car in between clearing out the hydrants. I would have been stuck until Spring if it wasn't for you guys.
The importance of clearing fire hydrants was made evident this morning, as FDNY members arrived on scene of a fire on 9th Ave in Manhattan to find the hydrants covered in snow. Critical seconds were lost as the hydrants were cleared, and the fire escalated to a 4th alarm. Thankfully, there are no injuries to report. New York City homeowners and business owners - any delay in fire companies locating hydrants and getting water on a fire endangers the lives of both Firefighters and civilians. Shovel a path today, and on every snowy day. Help the FDNY respond when seconds matter.

Joe Zito And for this same reason don't park your freakin car right in front of them either. Or else you're gonna get slapped with the classic "be gentle now Axe" moment.

^ bonus points to people who get the reference.
Stephen Stolarik Start fining the home owners/business that don't shovel out Fire Hydrants. If a Fire Hydrant is on your property,it's your responsibility to keep it clear.
NYC homeowners & business owners - shovel snow away from hydrants so FDNY can access in case of emergency. Read additional winter storm safety tips at http://ow.ly/Xrnk5 [web page]

Ch Kessler We need to formalize pump-clearing. The DEC already has the HEAT program in the summer for people to keep pumps closed in the summer--time for the winter version. After the insanity of this storm, maybe FDNY can get the city to launch a huge grass root...See More
Eduardo Garcia Jr. They should fine all properties that do not clear the hydrants off! I walked around my neighborhood today and saw numerous still covered completely in snow.
